Project Details
Iron Mountain, a publicly traded NYSE corporation (IM), is a rapidly expanding organization. A leader in records and information management, Iron Mountain has been providing storage for all major media, including paper, computer disks and tapes, microfilm and microfiche, master audio and videotapes, films and optical disks, x-rays and blueprints.

Iron Mountain acquired the Brockway Glass facility in Freehold, NJ, expanding potential storage capacity by one million square feet with land to build an additional 200,000 SF. PJR Construction was contracted to maximize the site to its fullest potential. PJR’s engineering team was able to place a 160,000 SF building on the property. PJR was also able to challenge the 20% Land Use Regulation of Freehold Township and increase it to 40%, essentially allowing Iron Mountain to build 700,000 SF of additional storage facility.

During the last six years, PJR has completed projects to enhance the Iron Mountain Freehold facility. Some projects include office fit-outs, installation of climate control systems, heavy demolition, re-siding, pouring new reinforced concrete floors, and the most recent addition to the Iron Mountain complex, Buildings H-1/H-3.

Buildings H-1/-3 is a two-phased 160,000 SF building. The main purpose of the building is for storage of files and records. PJR was challenged to find ways to maximize the profitability of the facility. PJR’s design and engineering departments worked closely with the operations personnel of the Freehold facilities. PJR designed a 70-foot tall building with five loading docks, and a 1,500 SF office/employee area located under the mezzanine. The mezzanine was designed to support the loads of three levels of racks. Smoke hatches were installed in the roof to increase the length of means of egress and to supply the building with adequate light to reduce operating costs of the facility.

Iron Mountain has come to rely on PJR’s abilities to make the Freehold facility one of most productive profit centers of Iron Mountain.
